Spurs sold Robbie Keane in the period you mentioned and then bought him back. King and Woodgate are only better than the defensive pairing at Arsenal. Both players would be a huge risk in terms of a buy and who else is there with the exception of Modric and now VdV who would enhance the squads of Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and City ? That explains why there has been a halt to the sales but I think they'll resume in the summer.
Player loyalty is questionable because Spurs haven't had a Gerrard, Scholes, Giggs, Del Piero for many years. You accept the modern day player is fickle but you'll probably describe players like Modric and VdV as 'Spurs legends' in years to come on the strength of a couple of years service at best.
Inconsistent Spurs
Re: Inconsistent Spurs
Nope. I wouldn't describe any player in the modern era as a legend. They do a job. That's it.
When I was kid players would often be in the local side by side with fans. You could identify with them and they acted like normal people. Because of that we looked up to them. They were us. I feel nothing for the pathetic, cheating multi-millionaires of today, totally lacking in humility despite the fact they'd be stacking shelves if their feet were less deft. I love my club, even though it no longer really exists, because it's a part of my history but the players come and go. I appreciate their skill, or scoff at their lack of it, and that's as far as it goes. The Premiership is simply about money. Nothing else.
That said, Gareth Bale - Spurs legend. !wink!
