In the USA it is commonplace for the rich to hold charitable events hosted and attended by other rich people. The tickets cost many thousands of dollars and they have auctions etc. These events raise $millions. Presumably doing this makes them feel better about themselves having so much money, but who cares, the ends justifies the means.

Maybe it would have been more contructive for Caan to do something similar, ie enlist the support of other billionaires in holding some event for aid to Pakistan and then suggested more widespread support from the general public.
