Sky Sports News

Post by Robhood »

After the revamp/relaunch on Monday I'm no longer able to see the graphics down either side of the page.

So I can't see the league tables or full list of scores/results on the right hand side.

Or see the home teams name, as scores come through on the vidiprinter.

I've tried all the different settings on my TV - widescreen, 16.9 etc, but it makes no difference.

I know this relaunch was designed for HD, but is there any hope for those of us without HD?

Thanks in advance.

Fucking Sky are haemorrhaging local pub customers in my vicinity and I suppose around the country. My local had their bill upped from ?500 a month to ?1200 a month. The landlord said fuck off and no longer shows the sports. I miss the cricket and couldn't care fucking less about soccer. Sky, aka Rupert fucking arsehole Murdoch, deserves to lose customers. They, he, are nothing but greedy grasping arseholes. Fuck em.

I had the same and did what it suggested, re-tune abd I would get it on ch44, aka Sky Sports 3+1....whatever THAT is!!
Did all that and got ch44, and was Sky Sports News on it? Was it bollocks......not that I give a toss about sport, but Georgie Thompson is well worth banging one out over.......and dirty Charlotte Jackson!!

I'm not an expert on technical stuff but I think what they're doing is sending a downscaled HD picture to an SD service, so you're losing a little bit of the picture. You shouldn't lose ALL of the graphics though, just a fraction on either side. My tv cuts one letter off the furthermost caption, so their top left banner which sometimes has a caption saying COMING UP, reads OMING UP.

I've noticed a similar thing when watching HD sourced material on Sky Sports, like wrestling. the WWEHD logo is slightly chopped off.

If you're losing a lot of picture your tv might be overscanning too much and lopping off more than it should, or perhaps your box isn't set up right?

Of course

all the above assumes you're watching SS News in SD and don't have the full HD service.

I'm afraid you misread or misunderstood Sky's information message Jonesy. I'll repeat it for you:

"Sky Sports News is no longer available on Freeview. Please retune now to get Sky 3+1 on channel 44."

NOTE: Sky 3+1 and not Sky Sports 3+1 as you said above. There is no such thing as Sky Sports 3+1.

It's always the same with these companies. eBay is another one (obviously a completely different thing, but same principle).

They start off filling a niche and offering a decent service at affordable prices.

Then, as they become more successful, the tycoons and big business move in, they undergo a makeover (or three), and the prices they charge for their "new improved" services skyrocket as their sole aim becomes securing big bonuses for the fatcats in suits, and keeping the shareholders happy.

The consumer is eventually reduced to a mere cash-cow and the quality of the product becomes secondary. Trouble is, there are always enough mug punters willing to keep shelling out no matter what, rather than realising 'hang on a minute, someone's taking the piss at my expense here'. So hats off to the landlord at your boozer, Rodders, for telling Sky where to shove their sports subscription package.

Thanks Ned, yeah I don't have HD.

So basically I'm stuck with this until I go HD.

It is just the graphics down each side which are 'chopped off', but it's annoying when wanting to check the latest football scores quickly, and the league tables.

Thanks once again.
