We didn't go into 'nam for one very good reason... Harold Wilson. For all his many faults, he stands alone as a British Prime Minister who didn't kowtow to the Americans.
Churchill, Eden, MacMillan, Douglas-Home, Heath, Callaghan and Brown have all licked American arse... but none more so than Thatcher and Blair. For that they should all be ashamed of themselves.
And we as a nation should be equally ashamed of allowing the "American way of life" to intrude upon our own to the huge extent it has now... trick or treat, McDonalds, Starbucks, the death of the high street in favour of huge out-of-town supermarkets, white working class kids talking like "home boys", etc., etc
If the BNP REALLY want to see a return the "British Values" forget about kicking out the Poles, Nigerians, etc... kick out all these insidious American global companies from our land.
Someone pointed to an article about how our financial debt to the USA for WWII had finally been paid off... it would not have been so high in the first place but for the crippling terms of the pre lend-lease agreements. We were made to pay through the nose (both financially and in terms of giving the Americans virtually permanent bases on British soil) to borrow out of date equipment. Indeed some of the ships were so obsolete that, believing we probably would lose the war anyway, some, such as the Campbletown, were sent on suicide missions.
We owe America NOTHING!!!!!

It was good how Harold Wilson stood up to the yanks and didn't send troops to Vietnam. I was only really reminded of that when you pointed it out in your comment and it proves that we do not have to just go along with the Americans. We didn't have to support them in Iraq and Afghanistan and send our soldiers there. It has cost our soldiers lives, cost us unbelieveable amounts of money, and it turned Tony Blair into someone who is now hated and will be hated for the rest of his life. If he lives to be 100, that will still be talked about when people mention him and it will dominate all of the obituries on Blair when he dies. It will be with him forever.

I did mention this before on another thread,
There was a german u-boat that was on its way to japan loaded withsome secret plans and materials.
Some of these materials where to be used in the making of nuclear weapons.
The germans surrendered while the u-boat was still on its way to japan so the u-boat also surrendered.
The materials where taken by the americans.
So the germans in a way helped america to nuc japan.
As for hilter declaring war on america ,he had plans to make long range bombers to bomb the eastern side of america and was also sending long range u-boats to american waters.
One such u-boat number 166 was sunk near the mississippi delta
