Lindsay Buckingham uses a technique that avoids the need for him to play many actual notes, relies on some strange open tuning and ... well if it wasn't for the people he's worked with he'd be an unknown.

Personally I'm an Eric Clapton fan, but Jimmy Paige, Brian May, Hank Marvin, Mark Knopfler and many of the others already mentioned are fantastic.

>worlds best guitarist

Why is the question "worlds best guitarist" always taken to mean worlds best ROCK guitarist.

There are plenty of other styles.

I bet there are things that John Williams and Julian Bream could do that most rock guitarist could not even attempt.

Not fully related to this topic, but thought some of you may be interested.

I have the brilliant online radio station / music database called Spotify.

After seeing this thread I did a search for Fleetwood Mac and came across some albums by the "Mick Fleetwood Blues Band".

These were made in 2008 and 2009 and are an attempt by Mick Fleetwood to go back to his original "Fleetwood Mac" blues / rock days.

I have to say they are really really enjoyable.

Great "blues / rock" and they sound like music from the 1960s and 1970s.

Even if you are not a great fan of blues give them a listen.

Here is a link to the album on Amazon, and you can press "Preview all" to hear a bit of each song

By the way, the Mick Fleetwood albums above feature Rick Vito, who was in Fleetwood Mac (and has toured with Bonnie Raitt) so he is a fine blues / rock guitarist.

Roy Buchanan rocks!
I thought I was the only person in the world who'd heard of him!
