I happened across the quote. I know who PJ Proby is. I've even heard the stuff he made for Savoy Records in the early eighties. It seemed worth posting because everybody made such a fuss about Michael Jackson recently.

No one will mourn PJ much when he pops his clogs - just as Simon Dee's demise made little impact.

But these people were hugely popular once, and those of us of an age to remember that popularity don't get much of a look in - this forum is currently more interested in John Leslie (who he?), Katie Price (no-talent bimbo) and someone called JEANIE.

one eyed jack - I said at the beginning the quote is from long before Jackson died. He wasn't being rude, he was speaking his mind, and it wasn't on TV, it was in the course of a long interview.

Okay, but the sort of criticism Proby dishes out is really nothing new. Jackson always had severe critics, especially in his latter periods (he himself admitted the moonwalk was something he'd picked up off the streets). More pertinent was Madonna's recent comments at the MTV awards about how abandoned he'd been by public and industry alike.

So who wasn't getting much of a look-in when Proby was in his prime then? It's just how culture works, that's all.

Funny how all those who accuse him of the kiddy fiddling only get their info from the tabloids and telly and always beleive what they are told instead of thinking...Well if he really did it how comes those dads to open up a can of whoop ass on his moon walking antics?

Well thats because if he isnt liked then people will believe anyhting that is bad written about him. Not the fact that he was one of the most generous people to give to charities and hey..His moon walking was nicked off of James Brown but so what, Elvis heavily borrowed some of his smooth moves from Chuck Berry and other black artists...So what?

Justin Timberlake openly admits he borrowed from Michael...For everyone that has borrowed, stoeln or whatever, they just carry the torch as homage. it just depends if they make something their own is what counts.

Muffinman - again you couldn't provide ANYONE though who was at top level standard at all three, that's why MJ was unique. Inevitably that level of ability will bring critics/envy and even people who just don't plain like him. (though I think his career would definitely provide "something for everyone" in the true sense).

I wouldn't deny Quincy was a musical genius, but so was MJ, in terms of songwriting here's a little list of his 'best' songs written by him

and a long list of other very well-known, ecclectic songs AND then the other classics he didn't write. However, lists don't really compare to just listening...

It's even more impressive that he wrote all his music as a kind of human beatbox and then just took it into the studio. I'm not going to try and change your mind because MJ has been around long enough for people to form opinions, but you cannot deny that's an impressive catalogue by anyones standards.
