Listening to Graham Poll on the matter we're both half right, Guilbert. Goals are indeed part of the game so you were right. But the referee can add on time for any throw-in, corner, goal kick, free-kick, substitution and goal celebration he deems excessive. What's classed as excessive is at the total discretion of the referee. He is only expected to be consistent during the game.....which he was.
According to today's Guardian study on time added on when Man Utd are losing/drawing, it does show that on average Man Utd get an extra minute of extra time than the average when they are winning. Of course, this can be explained pretty easily for all the bigger clubs because when a smaller team is winning/drawing at Stamford Bridge / Anfield / The Emirates / Old Trafford the visiting team is more likely to waste time compared to if they were already losing. Because of these obvious reasons the 'study' was a bit of a waste of time.
Also the headline was a little misleading: Revealed: Manchester United get more injury time when they need it.
With the above headline it gives the impression that only Man Utd benefit from extra time when they're in need of a goal. In reality all the big four benefit and what's the most interesting is that on average Man Utd have been given the least amount of extra time to score late winners/equalisers compared to Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea! Chelsea get the most extra time followed by Arsenal, then Liverpool, then Man Utd.

Never understood what the original 4 minutes were for in the first place as there weren't any obvious stoppages such as injuries during the second half. Anyway, fair play to Owen he saw his chance, Tevez was unlucky with his. A draw would have been a fair result on reflection of both halves but still City have home advantage next time and they'll want revenge for this one I'm sure.
