Starr is one of the best drummers ever! And he was not incredibly lucky! Pete Best was inept on the drums and could have cost the Beatles their deal with Prlophone. Not only was Ringo a very good drummer, but he had a wholly unique technique & being Left Handed his Backwards Fill's are amazing. He was also instrumental in the 'Dampening' Technique created by him and Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick!
So get your fact's right! Ringo was not incredibly lucky but extremely talented! And more than deserved to be a Beatle, even recording one of the great Rock Vocals with 'With A Little Help From My Friends'!!!
Where would Ringo be now if not for The Beatles?

I don't know what he was doin' as a day job but I figured that he'd be working. Some drummers including me love Ringo for his very simplistic drumming style.

Has Ringo done anything of note since leaving the Beatles? (Did he do anything of note whilst IN the Beatles for that matter!). Other than some awful 'b' movies, and voicing Thomas The Tank Engine, he's done nothing really - and those things were hardly 'of note'! The other three Beatles did great things in the band, and great things later too.

Yes he had a solo career. His 1973 album 'Ringo' was an American Number 1 as were his two solo singles - the superb 'Photograph co-written by George Harrison & 'You're Sixteen' he also scored hit singles with 'Back Off Boogaloo' & 'It Don't Come Easy'. He also drummed on John Lennon's John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album and Yoko's Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band album as well as George Harrison's 'All Things Must Pass' album and was the drummer for 'The Concert For Bangladesh'. and George's 'LivingIn The Material World' album. As well as drumming on Tug Of War, Pipes of Peace & Give My Regards To Broad Street, by Paul McCartney & he also directed the T-Rex movie 'Born To Boogie'.

Thanks for that. I knew he just wasn't sitting on the sidelines. Some of those I knew he did.

!cool!
I always thought that Ringo did well. The brilliance of the other 3 guitarists didn't really need an incessant drumming but enough to fill in, which he did well.
If John Lennon could say that Ringo wasn't the best drummer in the Beatles then surely that points to him not being the best anywhere.
When the Beatles were starting out there was a drummer in Harry Leaders' Band at the Brighton Regent Ballroom called Artie Mack, and boy could he play a drum set. One favourite at the time was "Let There be Drums" by Sandy Nelson, who could piss all over Ringo. Artie's version was better and when he played it everyone stopped dancing and gathered round the band and watched and listened. The applause at the end was deafening. Ah yes, I remember it well.

I watched the docu on The Beatles mini US tour of 1964 on the Ed Sullivan Shows, and I got the distinct impression Ringo was only in the band for acting a twat infront of cameras. He tries all manner of things 'for a lorra lorra laughs' and ultimately makes a cock of himself.
The live performances were dire, even with the sound enhanced to drown out the screams of the stupid audience!

jonesy, I agree with that. Ringo acted like a fool all the way through that documentary and all the way through 'Help!' aswell. I'm not that familiar with the other Beatles movies but he probably acts like a dick all the way through those aswell.
