You're talking about consumption, I was referring to production.

When you consider the large numbers of people who appear in porn, the ones that finish up fucked (figuratively speaking) is quite small - probably not much more than the average for everyone in that age bracket. Also, if a chick does porn for a couple of years, retires and becomes a soccer mum its not a story. If she's in jail at 25 then that gets in the news.

I would say however that rather than simply fucking and sucking in front of a camera, it seems like its some of the people they associate with in the porn business that ruin their lives.

Thats because (and Im convinced of this) that alot more brit girls do it with enthusiasm because they like sex and not just the money as the main reason for doing it.

The fact they are getting paid for it is even more exciting.

Ive shot girls who were shocked and excited abotu getting paid and some had issues that it was prostitution until I ran the shpiel I am making a product for sale that is not unlike I was paying an actor etc to legitimise things to them.

Deano, its not whether they end up in jail or not, its the way they look that changes. The example of Janine Lindemulder is a good one I think. To go from fresh and bouncy to old, haggered and rough looking within 2-3 years is sad, and the reasons for it are worth exploring. I found it interesting what one eyed jack said above about how if there is something inside you, something dark, then porn will bring that to the surface.

OK, I see what you meant.

Certainly Jenna Jameson changed so much that she's unrecognizable now compared to when she first started. She looked like the hot 'girl next door' originally. Now she looks hard and coked.

On the other hand (the hand I'm not wanking with), Felicia and Asia Carerra were performing for ages and stayed nice. So some seem to get through fine.

It's easy to make the case for and against when you are allowed to cherry pick the examples used to illustrate your argument.

Perhaps some people might recall a TV documentary that aired over here about 'The Curse of Page 3'? A classic case of 'If it bleeds, it leads', showing those who had suffered misfortune post-P3 rather than those who were now living happily in retirement from glamour modelling.

It's not Page 3's fault regarding what happened to Kirsten Imrie for example, but the documentary makers have an angle they want to push and will thus include anything that appears to strengthen their argument whilst at the same time excluding anything that could serve to undermine it . Had Kirsten Imrie been a successful property dealer and made the same bad decisions which led to her 'riches to rags' fall from grace, nobody would be making a documentary about banning estate agents.

The same holds true for porn, and in the case of Janine, I would actually argue that porn has very little to do with her current situation. Her decision to get heavily tattooed probably owed more to the crowd she was associating with whilst married to West Coast Choppers owner Jesse James rather than anyone in porn, who would most likely have prefered it if she didn't get tattooed.

Being in porn also didn't prevent her from paying her taxes...that was her decision and her decision alone, and she has reaped the consequences accordingly.

Perhaps the best counterpoint to the example of Janine would be that of her contemporary Julia Ann. Together, they dominated the feature dance circuit as a sensational double act called 'Blondage'. Whilst Janine is now inked up all to hell and banged up in jail, Julia Ann is still in terrific shape and in extremely high demand with producers in the valley after having been released from her contractual exclusivity to Wicked Pictures. She is in demand as both a 'MILF' and as a regular performer too, and is getting high profile work too, most notably with Jules Jordan.

Ultimately, I'm not in favour of individual bad decisions being blamed on porn or glamour modelling, as I don't think the argument holds up. Would you make the same argument about professional football using the likes of Gazza, Justin Fashanu, Joey Barton, Stan Collymore, Gary Charles, George Best, Mark Bosnich, Sasa Curcic, Adrian Mutu etc to justify it?

It looks like very hard, exhausting work sometimes, I'm not suprised it ages them, plus maybe there are often drug issues.
