Re: 80's bands
cocteau twins - one offs if ever there was.
Re: 80's bands
Obviously, I'll plump for Big Audio Dynamite (BAD) with the Mick Jones connection. Aztec Camera are decent as well, but try Prince's Sign O The Times, Simple Minds stuff is also excellent for that 80's sound
AVOID Spandau Ballet and any poncey New Romantics shit

Some of my favourites from the eighties - Gary Numan, Ultravox, visage and John Foxx.
Also a mention for Miro Miroe - excellent single called Nights of Arabia.

Re: 80's bands
Numan was OK in his Tubeway Army days but solo stuff was a bit tedious after a while .

Re: 80's bands
He was pretty much accorded god like status by his fans in the early days.
For myself, I've followed his music through his highs and lows and, you are certainly correct with what you wrote. The mid eighties to the late nineties were somewhat the wilderness years for him and, only now in the last few years has his star started to ascend once more with his darker more industrial sound proving popular amongst his older and younger fans.
There is of course the fact that Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nail amongst others citing him as a big influence in their music that will have helped raise his profile once again.

Re: 80's bands
Gemma, his wife, was a big fan of his and I guess as a numanoid, has claimed the ultimate fan posession. !grin!
Garry's mum, Beryl had always run the fan club up to its demise. Throughout the entire history of Tubeway Army and Gary Numan the Webb family has always been involved in one aspect or another of Garry's career, and still quite an ongoing family concern. I believe its the way that Gaz likes things to be.
