Or maybe old ?

It does seem to me that as comedians get older they get less funny (some exceptions).

I have been a great fan of John Cleese all my life, from hearing him on the radio, to the "1948" show, Monty Python, and Fawlty Towers, even Wanda.

But in the last few years he has been embarassing when I have seen him, trying to be funny but it just not coming off.

** Exceptions include Ken Dodd who is still amazingly funny at his age (80?). He still has a terrific zany streak that reminds me of Python and other similar comedians.

I can understand people's dislike to Jimmy Carr.He is an irritating twat, but i do like his insensitive and sharp sense of humour.

Lenny Henry has gone downhill of late, which is a shame.

Comedy as we all know does have it's 'sell by date'.

I've got no complaints about sitcoms these days, but i just don't get 'The Mighty Boosh'(UK Gold)/(Dave).

What's it all about?

I guess of you have to explain humour it's not that funny. I think the Boosh works on a funny man/straight man level plus surreal humour in vaguely believable setting. Some of the writing quality is superb, though.

Got to take slight issue there. Mitchell & Webb are good writers in their own right with a nice line in surrealism, and perfectly cast in 'Peep Show'.

Ade Edmonson's ability to get on telly mystifies me even more than Len's. Is it just me, or would you happily do his wife though?

Rik Mayall was funny for a very brief period in the 80's, then it all went downhill for him. He has featured in a long list of truly awful films. !thumbsdown!

Dawn French. I don't like anything that Lenny Henry has been in.

I completely disagree about Marcus Brigstocke and Bill Bailey, who is a musical comedic genius.

I saw Ben Elton live in 1986 and laughed so much my sides hurt. Then he wrote The Thin Blue Line. He is also the writer of the ITV show mentioned above, the one with Ade Edmonson in it Teenage Kicks

I sort of agree about Baddiel - although I recently watched the Newman and Baddiel TV series and was surprised at how good some of his stuff was.

The Punt and Dennis TV show wasn't nearly as good, but they are still going strong on Radio 4

I've seen Ken Dodd perform live too, all the stories about how he goes on for hours are true.

The unfunny list for me is (in no particular order)

Little and Large
Cannon and Ball
The Chuckle Brothers
Catherine Tate
