Frankie Boyle? From Mock The Week? Some of the stuff he comes out with is absolutely outrageously funny.

The Top Gear boys??? This thread is about best comedians, not the biggest (stale) joke on TV!!!!

He's not with us anymore, but I thought Spike Milligan never lost touch with his comic ability. Some say he almost single handedly invented modern 'Goon/Python' style comedy.

I remember John Cleese saying how when Python were in talks to make their first TV shows, Ian McNaughton showed them some old Milligan tapes of his early 'Q' series which never made it to air (due to the head of BBC comedy having no sense of humour). Cleese said he was amazed to find that Milligan had done pretty much exactly what Monty Python were planning a few years ahead of them.

Apparently, after an argument between Milligan and the BBC, his early 'Q' tapes were destroyed on the orders of some petty minded wanker. He resumed the 'Q' series in the late 70's which were great, although these days, much of the material would be deemed racist, sexist, xenophobic, intolerant etc.

The other 'good un' as well as Chris Rock is Dave Chappell, funny as f**k and very, very perceptive.
