One thing that went against Ten Cate crofter was that he was no 'shrinking violet',especially at the training ground.Always spoke his mind and most of times he would undermine Grant's authority, which was'nt difficult to do.Partly reason why Grant was sacked was his inabilty to manage professionaly, that included managing his coaching staff

A good manager is pro-active,not reactive !thumbsup!

I don't like Kenyon either, but you cannot really blame him, surely? Abramovich knew what Kenyon was about when he appointed him.

I know what you mean Sam.Kenyon's a money man, once was CEO for Nike's UK depsrtment,so he knows all about marketing, and if it was'nt for him,Man Utd would'nt be the global brand they are today.

'Bread and butter' Football fans will never understand the financial side of the game, and tbh, most of us don't really care.Ignorant as it may seem. The irony is that we only show concern when bankruptcy/liquidation becomes a possibilty. That is something that Chelsea fans like myself will always worry about, while the gloryhunting Kenyon lovers are blind to.Sam Slater wrote:

I think it's unlikely that Kenyon told Ten Cate his job was safe when he was actually about to get rid of him.

More likely he said that Grant's departure didn't mean that Ten Cate was bound to follow, as the two matters weren't necessarily linked, and Ten Cate interpreted this as meaning his job was safe.

This seems to be what the Dutch newspaper that carried the original story were saying.

The crux of the matter is that maybe Chelsea have already found their new manager, and he does'nt want Ten Cate among his coaching staff.

I don't expect Chelsea to name the new manager/coach till after Euro 2008.

Read into that what you want !grin!JamesW wrote:

I expect it to be much sooner than that.

You're hinting that the new manager will be Scolari, because that's the only reason for delaying the apointment.

If it's not Scolari, I don't see why they can't get it sorted next week.

United were a global "brand" years before slaphead was even at the club.

Ok well possibly rephrasing Ten Cate's hands on approach at training then ... he was quite happy to wind people up to see what sort of response he got, but I believe that was not his downfall:

A) He wasn't liked at Chelsea by coaches or players (a threat to both)
B) He spoke his mind and was a strong character in the day to day running of the club - something which was always going to attract the Russian Billionaires attention when any disharmony appeared in the Chelsea ranks, and starting to become proficient in picking up runners up prizes wouldn't exactly have helped his cause (if he had sat nodding quietely at the back like Steve Clarke he might still have been employed at the club)

So I would say Ten Cate is a top class coach who will definately go on to prove himself at a higher level then he had at Chelsea but his style just did not fit what Chelsea required at that precise moment.
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

I know, but they were' nt selling as many shirts or merchandise. It was Kenyon that masterminded MUTV and the websites for Man Utd fans in Asia.

The big name's like Van Nistelrooy were also brought to the club for shirt selling purposes,as well as bringing success

Kenyon done the same thing at Chelsea.Brought in Ballack and Shevchenko, which sent the tills at the Chelsea megastore ringing.

My point being that Man Utd became a 'bigger' global brand because of the buisness acumen of Kenyon. However,i don't like the way he's adminerstring events at Chelsea atm.

You read me like a book James. It's evident that Scolari will be the new boss.Ricardo Carvalho also said that he would consider staying at Chelsea 'if' Scolari was the boss. That is music to the ears of us fans.

Chelsea can handle losing players such as Lampard,Drogba,Essien as other players around Europe, and Britain are capable of filling their boots.

Chelsea without Carvalho would be a bit like a dog without his bone,Ben Dover without his camcorder,Hexy without her Rabbit !wink!

You getting me? !happy!JamesW wrote:
