I suspect that most people on here are libertarian by nature and politics is seen for the bollocks it really is. Right wing? Left wing? Irrelevant terms in the politics of today.
As for racial/ethnic prejudice, I don't think there's much of that on here, in the democracy of sex.
Most of the ranting on here is just that: ranting.
Anyway, surely if you're Irish and on here, you're white, Catholic/Protestant, and male? Not really a paid up member of minorities-are-us are you?
Got to say that when I used to go to Dublin and Belfast to see family, I found the Irish some of the most overtly racist people I've ever met. But then there aren't too many dark faces in the Republic or the North, so the ignorance, in terms of multi-culturalism, is a bit like 1940s' England. Belfast is the only place I've ever been in the UK where people have openly used the word 'nigger' in casual conversation.
It's a bit like Jewish people and Palestine: you think that a people with a history of oppression will be sensitive in the way they view and treat others, but no. Humans really are pretty shitty about and to one another.

This question is constantly asked, it's as if we define ourselves by the need to be liberal.
I spoke with a Pakastani Human Rights Lawyer/Academic/Author at length only yesterday, a pretty in-depth conversation that went on for nearly an hour, mainly about the why's & wherefore's of 911, and the subsequent effect the 'war on terrorism' has had on human rights, and it's impact on people.
His view on the wars leading lights - the US & UK have been governed by religious zealots which has resulted in these countries taking the moral highground and over-simplifying the 'good' vs 'bad' argument, his opinion on how this been allowed to happen? Almost opposite reasons, yet both steeped in ignorance... the US has simply continued it's high-handed 'do as we say not as we do' stance based upon the fact it's people think they have a right not be under any threat and they are being led by the basic belief of many Americans that they are supreme, and (given this is coming from a Muslim Pakistani Human Rights specialist!) the people of the UK have been nullified by years of middle-class guilt-tripping over the colonising and have surrendered the national identity almost completely and are willing to basically let people do things they 'wouldn't get away with' in countries with stronger beliefs and confidence. Now, that's coming from a learned scholar with a background of both Human Rights and Islam!

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Don't want to start a whole war of politics here but how are jewish people insensitive in their view and treatment of people?

You get small-minded people everywhere. We Scots like to think we're above that kind of thing---Rabbie Burns' "a man's a man for a' that"---but there is a deep-rooted, often hidden, element of racism here. The English are the usual target, which is quite ridiculous (I have my problems with England, but usually the English press and the arrogance that is particularly displayed by the sports media). But there have been incidents I've witnessed in the last six or seven years that shows us to be less than tolerant of other races and cultures.
Hate should be a personal thing, caused by an incident, not some generic feeling due to someone's colour, religion, sex or sexual orientation.
So long as it's deemed okay to hate groups of people, regardless of whether you know any of them personally, this irrational behaviour will continue.
