I've been hearing about this for years

This will certainly be the end od DVDs if you can download a film faster than you can blink but it could also be bad for the film industry as a whole as people would be swapping films instead of buying them, but having said that im all for new technology !thumbsup!

Er they're doing it already through p2p and file sharing sites already but I think there wil be protective measures to minimise this before its roll out and the way things are going withthe introduction of new laws seems to suggest this gives the authorites more power in effectively shutting down perpetrators of this heinous act of theft...

Now excuse me I have to download the entire 7 seasons of 24.

Like people have never purchased dvd's and lent them to a mate? I don't thnk the new technology encourages piracy, really.

Fibre Optics have always been the way ahead if the ISPs of Govt would put in the necessary investment

Sounds promising for solving complex equations but I very much doubt it will be something all the public will be able to afford given some of the practices that currently exist in the broadband market

ie high speeds with neglible free usage.
In some cases eqivalent to 30 mintues free usage on a month contract

Oddly this mentions nothing of the cost attached to laying all these fibre optics across the globe ... so until such times we can safely assume that it ain't coming to a PC near us.

I wonder if anyone has costed replacing all the copper with fibre optics to the subscribers. Then all the network cables in offices, schools, hospitals, etc etc etc.

Then it's not the new technology that makes piracy more likely, it just makes that piracy quicker.

Instead of adding more stupid drms to video and audio, can't a brand new file format be introduced whereby it is illegal to p2p such files without a licence? That way, files ending .mp4 (for example) could only be p2p'd with a licence.

People could get around this by conversion, but it makes their life a little harder.
