My shout would be for Ben Ainslie, at thirty-one years old he has two Oylmpic Golds and one Silver( achieved at the aged of nineteen!) Anyone else have suggestions?

amazing that we have a 2 time world champ but the papers dont pick up on that.much easier to moan about how bad this country does at all sport !

Seriously,i'd have to agree with Nob3y's choice of James Toseland who's gone from British Superbikes to the world stage of Moto GP and has made a decent start.Sadly though Superbikes or Moto GP is'nt as publicised as much as the boring and dreary F1.so only folk that are keen fans of Bikes would only hear of Toseland.

Alice's shout for Arnie Sidebottom i would'nt debate either,he's done excellent in this NZ test series and will go on to break all sorts of bowling records,but he will be ignored for BBC Sports Personality for 2008 as the Beeb don't broadcast Cricket,unless through their radio service.

I'd have to agree with Mike and Nob3y and go for James Toseland.

A fantastic debut a couple of weekends ago, and finally we have a British rider capable of winning in the top flight.

I'm biased cause I live 5 miles from where he grew up and went to the same school (a lot earlier though). Its always good to see a local lad do well (and he still comes and switches on the xmas lights!!)

Lets hope he keeps it up (and doesn't get distracted by Suzi Perry !love!)
