hello guys

can anyone tell me why my PCs D drive, which is its recovery drive, is so full? it is 5GB and only has 900meg of space free on it.
ive only had the PC for about 6 months and i certainly havent stored anyting on the D drive - yet - as there is loads of space on the c drive still.

this just seems abit odd to me and im a little concerned all is not well.

Is this drive just meant to store recovery files on it and not to store my files on at all since its only 5gb anyway???

Yes, your D drive is meant only to be used for recovery purposes.

My D drive is 6.5GB in size and has about 1GB free, so the situation is about the same as yours.

It's all fine. You should only be worried if the D drive didn't have anything on it!!!

If this is all you have for recovery, ie you did not get CD's for Windows and other programs like DVD burning and viewing with the computer, you should back-up the recovery drive to CD or DVD.

Otherwise if your hard drive fails or the files get deleted you are up s**t creak without a paddle.

If you read the literature that came with the computer there is probably a program on the C or D drive specifically to do this, or specific instructions using the installed CD / DVD program.

You may find the D drive contains a replica of all the windows operating files, hence "recovery", in the event the files become corrupted on the c drive.
Not that I know anything about PC's.

my d drive is 5.85gb in size with just under a gb free which is what it was the day i bought pc and its exactly the same 8 months on so id say yours is as it should be
like pondlife said its a recovery partition/drive only, not to be touched only in case of emergency,its same as mine anyway and mines fine if that helps

Yeah, its normal. It just holds the recovery files and windows will accsess it if it cant boot up as normal from C...
Leave well alone... All is good
