I call people Sir out of respect.

I call my Commanding Officer at work Sir but it is not compulsory to.

I do like the double meaning of the thread title 'sir posts' as Sir 56 is the author and we are discussing calling people Sir :)

Obviously didn't happen in 1969,your dream year? ;-)

I worked with a guy(religious fruitcake aged 40/50) in the early 80s who wouldn't call anyone who was his senior anything other than Sir.

Call someone a squire or chief back and the look is priceless

Regularly repeated on ITV4 now. Bit of a curse on it, as half the cast are dead- and it's a mixture of teachers and pupils.

Squire was used in a TV thing i think was about Headmasters or teachers in the 80s.
