I agree with crofter, including the xbox i've got 5 dvd players, and the amount of times i've had to use different players to play a disc sometimes borders on the rediculess

Try just washing it with a drop of washingup liquid and water then let it air dry after shaking off the water. This worked with a DVD of The Stone Tape I recently bought on ebay.
I've read about jimslip's tip re. toothpaste but I think its better to rub from the centre out to the edge (or viceversa) rather than in a circular direction.
