Wanna bet? Apparently very little of his weekday show is actually live (the traffic, weather, the meagre news items he may mention), but almost every other element is supposedly taped - intros, segueways, quizzes, interviews etc.
Rumour has it he is terrified of someone, or something, catching him unawares. I assume that with the sort of serious, schedule-disrupting event that many DJs dread - major death, distaster etc - he'd simply phase himself in then phase the whole show out. We hand you over to the newsroom etc.

It's the 'Emperor Roscoe road show', hot damn, that man was the bis.
He never dirtied his hand with the likes of 'Prog rock, man'. When I was a wee nipper, listening to his show was essential.
