hi people,in windows xp if you click start>my computer.then yiew system info the computer description and computer name are whatever the owner decided when setting it up but im trying to find out what the workgroup name should be or what it is by default please
trying to sort network out
is it workgroup mshome???

it,s whatever you want it to be. home computer, my computer etc, anything really, it,s just so it can be recognised on a network.

thanx lizard,what it is ive got a wireless home network.or at least i think i have
ive gt a wireless modem router and my xp desktop is connected to the router by ethernet cable and ive got a vista laptop which i normally connect to router wirelessely
but i wanted to be able to acess/stream any videos etc that are in my shared docs folder on xp desktop to laptop or can i not do that

Why not just copy them (the whole folder) and paste them to a folder on your laptop, it,s a lot easier, I think I know what you are trying to do, it,s a bit like setting up a remote access, so you can view files on another computer as in remote assistance, but it would be easier to do the copy paste thing.

I think he just wants to put stuff in the shared items folder so he can access them via the lap top. Not exactly streaming.

i cant copy n paste if its 2 different machinesor if i can i dont know how to
i thought if i had a home net work i could share files over the home network

so i can access what is in the shared folder/drive of the desktop from laptop if im in the garden for example

No I mean copy the folder to a flash drive usb, then plug that in your lappy and either watch from the flash drive or copy the folder on to your lappy and watch them from there.

If you've turned on folder sharing, then just copy the stuff you want into that folder, and as long as the machines are talking to eachother then you should be able to access the shared folder.
