I'm afraid it does.
Football is a Worldwide billion dollar business
Politicians & Public servants generate nothing but I do agree important
essential professions like nurses, paramedics etc are grossly under paid
when compared to say...the corporate sector

Professional football at the elite level is a doddle for those at the top
You try playing 50-70 games a year and see how your body holds up
Unless you've been a professional athelete at the top level
you couldn't possibly understand

Maybe football is a little bit more than just kicking a ball around the park
to members of the community...dontcha ya think?

What is really obscene is a company director making hundreds of people redundant and then receiving a massive bonus and hailed as a hero because he has made the company more profitable.

Re: jt's ?150k per week....obscene or what?!
apparently the wages structure in the league goes a bit like this:
League 2- ?50k average
League 1-?100k
C'ship- ?500k
P'ship- greedy cunts, a squillion a week
As a supporter of a 'small' team it galls me to hear of some of these figures. I met a ex Bristol Rovers player the other day delivering for DHL, he wasn't embarrassed, he just said the football didn't work out. Yes they are greedy parasites on the game but, if you don't like it, go and watch real football in League One or league Two where you at least still feel connected to the community the club stands for.

I've been to a few Chesterfield games when I've been back visiting the UK, and more often than not it's been a decent match.
You raise an interesting point there. I mean, how many Man Utd or Liverpool "supporters" live in places like Middlesex and Surrey - probably more than there are in Manchester, I'd wager!
I also heard noises being made as recently as last week about some big Premiership being played in the States in order to "raise the game's profile there" (i.e. make the rich clubs richer).
Just goes to prove (as if we needed any more proof) that top-flight football these days is all about big business, commercialism, sponsorships etc. with the sport very much secondary and simply a means to an end.

Pre-season tournaments prove that
The big teams charge a premium for an appearance to play against third rate opposition..

Is the product that good anyway? I mean Bolton v Wigan, or Derby v Fulham. The bottom 6 are all pretty dire anyway. Get yourselves down to your local team- it drives me mad seeing local kids in Bristol with Liverpool and Man U kits on. Go local!!!!

Compared to some NFL/NBA players they are badly paid. Still if you add in Tiger Woods they are gypos. He makes ?50m a year, nobody in sport comes close.
