Lower OVERALL crime, maybe (which includes things like indecent exposure while pissed and the theft of garden gnomes).

But higher VIOLENT crime - which is the type of crime that worries most people.

And politicians, don't forget, are in any case very good at "massaging" crime stats.

The world is what we make of it. All in the gutter, some looking at the stars.

Awful things happen here. They happen in the US and Australia and France and Spain and wherever else all those Brits are going. Society isn't perfect, but neither is it the hell that screaming newspaper headlines and panicky TV reports would have you believe.

It could be disillusioned Tories going away; it could be people trying to find a better life for themselves and their family; it could just be the only way to cut yourself off from a previous life and begin again. It won't work for all of them, but good luck to them. But this is my home, and, until I find somewhere I'd rather live, it will remain my home.

Evebin' C'rac. My, yer in good form tonite, straight from the 'off'.
It's a trite argument, but yes, if you think the grass is greener, by all
means piss off to Poland or Papua New Guinea.

True, but there are various surveys and ways of recording crime, and the government swaps and changes the one it prefers, according to which one suits it best.

And I'd say that the fact that VIOLENT crime is up is EXTREMELY relevant. But clearly you can't argue with that - so instead you just dismiss it.

...well, then, all they would need to do is avoid the forum, surely, rather
than emigrating?
That would seem a trifle unnecessary and not a little insane.
