I bought myself a new keyboard yesterday and have been engrossed in playing it since I got it home. I haven't played for about 6 years so its been great fun recalling all of the songs I used to play. I have played piano and keyboard since I was 7. Never had any lessons tho, just knew how to play it.
Just got me wondering if we had any other musicians on here )

Re: Musical instruments
I have guitars, lots of 'em, all good 'uns as well, no Squire bollocks at Chez Ace
Funnily enough, we have a piano as well. Mrs Ace nearly brought a new walnut vaneered model at ?900, but a neighbour mentioned she was getting shut of one, so we blagged that for free. Its about 40 years old and is a solid mahogony upright one, we had it re-tuned at a paltry ?40, and the sound is fantastic.
Never taken a lesson, but years of playing guitars stood me in good stead to progress nicely instead of playing wanky scales for weeks.
Stick at it, its a great instrument.

Re: Musical instruments
I used to play with my organ a lot during my teens, but now my girlfriend plays with it more than I do. Her technique's never rivalled mine, but I don't mind as I can relax more.
She asked me if I play with it when she's away, but I sensed she may be a bit jealous because she once got very angry when -jokingly- I said I'd let another girl play with it. I denied playing with it in her absence but she seemed sceptical, and so she should be.
On occasions it got the better of me, but now it knows I'm the boss, no matter how many times it tries to persuade me to give it a public appearance in Tescos, I just ignore it. I mean, I still take it out everywhere I go, but it's always wrapped up.
Apart from these occasions, we get on just fine.

Re: Musical instruments
Hey!!
I try to kid my self I can play the guitar. Been bashing the thing about since I was fourteen (Only squire bollocks at Chez Beeston im afraid) been threatening to buy a perticular new one since I was about fifteen. Many a drunken night with my cursor spent dangling over the "Commit to buy" button. But that little tight sober voice at the back of my head saves me every time.
Being basically "crap" on the guitar and totally bemused by most other instruments (with possible exception of the Kazzo) I am all ways in complete awe of any one who has mastered any form of instrument, with or with out lessons. So in short keep it up....im more than a little jealous!!
Cheers

Re: Buy It Now option
BB, I assume you are on about ebay and the guitars, usually from China with the option to 'Buy it Now'
PLEEEEEASE AVOID these cheap and nasty axes. They are inferior models copied from famous brands and models. The electrics inside are very suspect as well. I would have a LOT of misgivings before plugging one of these tacky guitars in my Marshall and me as the Earth.
A reasonable model to start with is the Yamaha Pacific (Based on a Stratocaster), ten times better than a Fender Squire, at an affordable ?129.99 and you get a 10W practice amp as well.

Re: Buy It Now option
Hello Ace!!
All ways wondered about Yamaha, given the faultless quality of there keyboard's. Thankyou for the heads up on the stuff from China. Would be just my luck to finally get my hands on the Semi accoustic of my dreams and find the phrase "Playing LIVE" can take on a whole new meaning!!
If memory serves me right, there are a couple of pics of your Gibson semi on here some where....hang on,that sounded plain wrong. But you know what I mean. I might get a bunch of tissues on stand by and have a wee peek at it again later !thumbsup!
Thankyou chap and hope this finds you well

Re: Musical instruments
I have been a professional musician since 1963 and am a professor of music. Naturally, this has been my whole life, but even if you just spend twenty minutes a day with your new instrument, it will enrich your life greatly.
