Yeah, and what's more they could have probably renovated and modernised the old stadium for a fraction of the cost of building a new one, fitting it out to meet 21st century needs but retaining its character at the same time. But no - we had to have a modern monstrosity instead. The Twin Towers were only 39 metres high and the big metal arch is 155 metres? Big fucking deal.

I also agree with what you said higher up about modern Cup Finals. Absolutely spot on right: Thanks to greed and commercialisation, the days of the underdog having his day in the Cups are long gone and I think that it's unlikely we'll see a Cup Final in the foreseeable future that doesn't feature at least one of Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool (most likely it'll just be various combinations of these 4).

My team (Sheffield Wednesday) won the League Cup in 1991 as second division side (i.e the "old" second division). That would never happen now - a team from the "lower leagues" reaching a Final (let alone winning it).

That's one reason I find myself losing interest in the UK football more and more with each passing season: Basically it's now just the same 4 clubs passing round the silverware, with the rest just scrambling about for the scraps (i.e. a UEFA Cup place or avoiding relegation) It's becoming almost as big a joke as the SPL.

At least here in Germany things are much more open and it's not just about Bayern Munich. VfB Stuttgart won the Bundesliga yesterday - but the title could also have gone to Schalke 04, and up until last weekend Werder Bremen were also still in with a shout. A three-horse race, but with Bayern out of the running weeks ago.

In my view a new a new stadium should have been built in the midlands. It would have been easier for fans from nothern/midlands clubs to get to instead of the long trip to the big smoke.

Coventry's Ricoh Arena site was touted. Perfect location for motorway links as well.
FA wanted it in the traditional area

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

I loved it! Chelsea 1 The Famous Man Yoo 0! HA! I'm sure Gene Hunt would have been well pleased, eh Sam?

Must admit I wasn't too impressed with new Wembley. Does look characterless much like all modern stadiums. And who designed the bloody walk up for the trophy? I'm surprised they didn't put a lift in too!

Though the match was shit, I think the new stadium needs to be given a chance. Everyone hated the millennium stadium first time round, and it took a few years before people started to enjoy it. Same goes for other new stadiums teams have moved to.

We've a new breed of supporter these days, a new breed of player, and different seating arrangements. We're never going to get old Wembley back; it's gone, so hopefully in a few years, people will be enjoying the new Wembley again.
