We seem to be going far too soft on Iran for my liking. Was this stage managed as I notice oil prices are set to jump again? Worst case scenario for Exxon, BP etc is a stable Middle East...........
Also why the fuck didn't the Marines simply open fire and sink the bastards?
Iran kidnap a set-up?

Exactly - maybe they were indeed in Iranian waters?

Re: Iran kidnap a set-up?
The US has been semi-openly planning an attack on Iran since before the Iraq war began. And of course, where the US goes, Britain follows. It's easy to forget, but the British armed forces have no legal right to be in the Shatt al Arab waterway, whether on the Iraqi or Iranian side.
This may or may not be a set-up, but for sure the Yanks and Brits are building up a case for war against Iran. They've been claiming for ages that Iran are backing Iraqi insurgents, but without producing a shred of evidence.
So the British government and armed forces have nothing to complain about - bring the troops home and they won't be killed or kidnapped by anyone.

Justin Raimondo's take on this is informative. FYI Justin is an American anti-war campaigner who has been exposing Bush's plans to attack Iran for several years now.

It's not looking like a great source. There are lots of claims by the US and Brit military, and I remember when the US military produced lots of weapons in front of journalists and claimed they're in Iraq. But as of yet there's not a "smoking gun" (or smoking roadside bomb for that matter).
This is about as good as it gets at the moment: "The weapons had characteristics unique to being manufactured in Iran ... Iran is the only country in the region that produces these weapons," according to the anonymous defense official.
