Ok thanks for that Sam and it does look a little easier than I thought however the PC did come with a recovery CD and not the official copy of XP unfortunately.

Yep i agree, re-install XP, its not hard at all. If you've lost your ID for it, just ring them up and they'll give you new ones (email me for the excuse you need to get the ID numbers though as they dont just give them out)
Also, get rid of norton.....its shit and very invasive, thats why it takes so bloody long to get rid of it on add/remove programs.
We use a free virus checker called avast, used by a lot of techies and its great.

The recovery CD supposed to make reinstallation easier. Have you tried it?
They're all different so it would be hard to direct you, but I'd imagine the CD would guide you through a reinstallation.
Just remember to back-up all your e-mails, passwords, music etc before having a go.
