Re: Die Hard 4
Right.
The Die Hard franchise is similar to the Alien series. Two great films followed by a dodgy third and a fourth instalment that perhaps we could do without. DH3 was similar to Alien3 in that they both had difficult development stages and they both needed their endings reshot. Any film that needs its ending reshot usually turns out shit - ultimate example = Jaws4.
The producers of DH3 made the mistake of chickening out of the original plan to have the film set aboard a cruise ship. The recent success of Under Seige convinced them that they had to come up with another story. The cruise ship scenario would have been great as it provided a claustrophobic setting similar to the first movie. Instead they adapted an original screenplay called Simon Says and made it into a Die Hard movie. Except DH3 wasn't a DH movie. It strays too much away from the formula and throws Lethal Weapon and James Bond into the mix. And Jeremy Irons is a rubbish villain. It just doesn't work.
But it was a hit with critics and audiences so what the fuck do I know?
At first glance DH4 looks like a Bruckheimer-style movie without the soul of the original. And it has the dreaded young sidekick who will no doubt help save the day by being a computer wizard or something.
AND it's directed by Len Wiseman, for fuck's sake!

Re: Die Hard 4
I enjoyed Die Hard 3. Especially the racial tension between Bruce and Sam Jackson. It wasnt a candy coated buddy buddy flick and I liked Jeremy Irons for not being over stated.
Theres something menacing about a bloke who doesnt have th ephysical attributes to stand toe to toe in a fist fight but can cause all kinds of hell for the main character by being conniving....and it was directed by the orginal director of the first one...John McTiernan (if that means anything). He also done a great job on what couldve been a mega embarrassement (Predator) which turned out to be the ultimate bloke- in-wife-beater-vest - clutching- a -beer movie in my opinion. Arnold Schwarzenegger versus a bad ass ET.

Re: Die Hard 4
I thought it was a candy coated buddy movie. They loathed each other at the start but found a mutual respect at the end. Shock. Seen it all before.
And I struggle to think of a decent Irons movie apart from Dead Ringers.
I agree McTiernan was great once. Die Hard, Predator, Hunt For Red October. But now he makes shit. Rollerball?
Same goes for Renny Harlin. DH2 was great, Cliffhanger was good and The Long Kiss Goodnight was underrated. But now? Oh dear.

Now a Bruce Willis sequel I would like to see is Unbreakable 2. Shyamalan intended this to be a trilogy but I don't know if it'll happen.

Don't forget Rocky Balboa or even Rambo 4. Both out in 07!
Re: Die Hard 4
The trailer doesn't have me hyped up as much as it should. Trailers should be in your face , make u WANT to go to the film. This one just says "theis film is a just like an extended episode of 24". Ok, u can't have him say Ypeey yi yay mother fncker! as kids will be watching this, but c'mon, it could be a LOT better.
