techica;l advice request

Post by mex »

Lads,

Right here's the crack-

I've got quite a lot of xxx videos on my PC which I've gotten from various parts/sites of the net. I now want to put them all onto dvds + delete them from my PC. I have no idea how to do this.

My PC allows me to burn cds, but does not allow me to burn dvds (although it lets me play them). I'm not sure, but I think this is because it doesnt have a dvd drive/burner facility!

What stuff exactly do I need to get/buy? It would be great if someone could provide an actual link to a suitable product(s).........

I am looking for something run of the mill that does the job but wont leave me skint :)

Thanks lads

You just want a basic DVD RW. and the software. Most writers come with Nero but check first.

There are lots here>

Not wishing to stamp on Sam helping you...

I would recomend DVD-R as the blank type of media. You can only write/record once on them.
They are becoming a bit of an industry standard.... for dvd's

I get mine from

I use these slightly more expensive than the norm..... but I think it is important to get a good quality so that it lasts..... hopefully.

When I copy on the Laptop I use Nero.
Most times I use a duplicator (Which APR sell)

I upgraded my old PC with a DVD burner, like you are doing.... but it wouldn't copy dvd's because there was not enough space left on my PC HDD. the copy process Nero used needed 4GB and the poor old PC only had a 6GB HDD in total so with the operating sys and other programs on it there was not enough space...... So I am sure yours is bigger but be aware.....

Mex,

I use 2 excellent programs to convert my downloaded media into files that will play on your standalone DVD player.

These programs are :

1) Ulead DVD Movie Factory

2) Cucusoft AVI to DVD Convertor

I use them both and its possible to get them at less the price that are advertised (Contact me for details if needed.).

These programs will convert your films to VOB format, which means that they will play in your standalone player.

I use 8x DVD-RW as my media for burning and I use Datawrite Grays, and dont have a problem with them.

If you need more help drop me a line.

I have an NEC ND3550A DVD burner that I bought about 9 months ago and it has been perfect. NEC have a good reputation.

You will need to fit it inside the PC case of course, you can either put it in place of your existing CD/DVD drive, or alongside it.

I have two drives in my PC, a DVD/RW and a CD/DVD player, great for copying DVDs.

Make sure you have the DVD burner as the master, the other as the slave (if this makes no sense to you then just ask).

I bought Nero 6 which has been excellent. I found it in a sale in W H Smith's for about ?15.

There are other software burners like Roxio, Ulead etc.

I also tend to use DVD -R and never had a problem. The make are Infiniti, but I have no idea if they are well thought of or not, but they have been fine for me (in my Panasonic DVD recorder as well).

If you need any more help then just ask.

Alternatively you could convert them into DivX format. This is more advanced than the DVD format and compresses to a third the size or less with no visible loss in quality. You could then store them on CDs, or get 3 or more on a DVD and save media costs.
You can create DivX with AutoGK which is free. !wicked!

lads, I've bought both my dvd writer + dvd discs from aprmedia (as per porn crackers' assistance!). Now then do I also need some software? if so, which one? + is it available on the sly, for free, anywhere?

Thanks again
