Dead Rising

Post by mrchapel »

OK after looking up something for the arcade games thread I found this

"On August 24, 2006 an article on gamerevolution.com[25], said to be from an unnamed interviewee, stated that the release and mass sale of Dead Rising has coincided with increased Xbox 360 failures, leading many to believe that the game is causing the machine to break down. The interviewee in the article went on to say that the cause of the failure is most likely to be Dead Rising's use of the 360's Triple-Core processors, and loading times which causes more heat within the console, although Capcom have not revealed whether or not they do use the multi-core processor. A day later Microsoft released a statement denying any truth in the unnamed employee's claims of increased failure due to Dead Rising.[26]"

And my 360 has recently died on me. It`s 6 months old and is overheating, something which never happened before I got the game. Anyone else noticing any problems with it?

Well...yes and no. One of the first games I got for my 360 was Elder Scrolls:Oblivion. Now there WAS a problem with this game, that Microsoft actually admitted. Indeed there was a recognised little trick to "clear the cache" when the game was loading to help it run more smoothly.

However my 360 did start flashing the dreaded red light and stopped working. I must say though that the service I got from Microsoft was superb. After a few quick questions over the phone, they e-mailed me an address label and arranged for a courier to pick up my machine the following day. I recieved it back three days later, and have had no problems with it since....touch wood....and yes I have been playing Dead Rising without any probs.

There are a couple of "coolers" on the market now. A unit that clips on the back of the 360 which the mains runs through and activates little fans that keep the machine cool.

Cheers man. Sounds like a better service than I got from sony when my psx died and I had to pay ?45 to get it uplifted and a reconditioned one. The courier was supposed to collect it in two weeks and took six. He was supposed to call me beforehand and didn`t, he was only supposed to take the console and instead took the console , analogue pads, scart lead and game that was in the console and left me with a reconditioned piece of shit, a worn joypad and an rf cable. And sony`s response when I called them? Tough shit, we`ve got your money. And folk wonder why I steer clear of sony and their shit station like a lepers rancid dick

I have played quite a bit of Dead Rising on my 360 and have had no problems with it. The machine has always frozen occasionally though from time to time and so have my friends and before we bought the mentioned game. It's a common problem amongst 360's.

I've personally had no problems with Dead Rising, but I have read a lot of feedback on the xbox site and quite a few have complained about their 360's dying on them. Basically from what I have read if you get the three red rings next to the green light switch then its fucked.

Also I have learned that the most likely machines to die on them are the ones purchased at the launch before the 2006 machines were released.

That's a good comment. My mate had one of the launch consoles and his went on him. He had to send it back to Microsoft and they said they had a faulty batch. Apparently it's been sorted since. I bought mine in April and have had no major problems with it...yet.

Yeah I got mine in april too, no major issues and updates caused any problems either so hopefully all the teething problems will be sorted.

One thing is for sure though I won't be buying a PS3 until i'm sure the teething problems will be sorted out there too and not to mention the stupid price.

I won't be buying a PS3 with the exception of Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo they have no big games that aren't on the 360 and price wise the games are a tenner more expensive. The console is more expensive and really for me the 360 has this market sown up now, Xbox Live is spot on and unless Sony copy Microsoft's online marketplace it just won't be as good. Yes the PS3 will be a technically better machine and I used to have a PS1 and like Sony, but for me it's the 360 now. Sony have waited too long and missed out imo.

Yeah I agree and thier arrogant attitude toward European gamers is a disgrace, they stated in response to delays over here was "Historically Europeans don't mind waiting" - since fucking when? Anyway you're right aside from a few titles which won't get released over here until at a year later(since we like waiting so much), there isn't anything on the PS3 launch that will make me want to buy it straight away. Also the Blu Ray(stupidest name ever) is going to bomb badly, Sony's history with this sort of thing isn't good, other exmaples are Betamax, MiniDisc, Laser Disc and UMD's and although their quality is good they only work on the PSP cost the same as a normal DVD, have no features and some Movie studios have already stopped using them.
