"That was true in the '80s"
That was one aspect of student life in the 1980s. Another aspect was the FCS.
Some young people are interested in radical politics of either the right or the left - wow, how deeply profound.
You presumably missed the truth that most young people were then, and are now, far more interested in booze and shagging than student politics.

Re: Dibble, you started this.....
?You missed out hand-wringing from your list.?
Maybe I?ll use it next time.
?I always thought you copied and pasted these dreary, obsessed diatribes?
This is a classic example of what I was talking about ? a poor prole, like my good self, forgets his place and offers an opinion that challenges middleclass PC orthodoxy, and all he get for his trouble is a condescending barage of contempt and scorn. Are you of the opinion that common folk should be seen and not heard? - Well, begin? yer pardon guvnor. Forgive my impertinence. I forgot myself for a moment (he says ? feverishly tugging his forelock). It won?t happen again your lordship, I promise. Please don?t dismiss me, I need my weekly half a sixpence wages - I?ve got ten bairns and a missus to feed!
Regarding my alleged ignorance ? Pray, Sir, of what particular issues and matters am I ignorant? I have an inquiring mind and would be pleased if you would care to enlighten me. As for my ?prejudices?, you misjudge me, Sir. I have none (to speak of). If I turn my nose up at any individual or group it is because they are, in many instances, crap - and have been observed to be crap over a prolonged period. My observations are NOT irrational, preformed, opinions based on ignorance and fear ? if you, er, don?t mind me saying so, guvnor. Ooops, beggin' yer pardon, Squire. I forget myself again ? What could a humble, blue collared, commoner, like myself, possibly know of such matters?

?To use their grief to make a political point, which has been ably refuted by other posts?
?Refuted?? I wasn?t aware that it had been refuted at all ? ably or otherwise. Who refuted it? It seems to me that most of the posts here seem to agree that it is an iniquitous scandal that white victims of race crime are hardly ever mentioned in the mainstream media. Yet the Anthony Walker and Stephen Laurence cases are hardly ever out of the news. I wonder if Kirss Donald?s family will continue to be feted by the media and invited to Downing Street for a meeting with Gordon Brown and a tete a tete with the Home Secretary? I don?t think so.
"and in my opinion suggests you are as callous as the media which you criticise."
Er,.. But I?m not criticizing the media for being callous ? I?m critisising them for being middleclass, politically correct, Guardian readers who are out of touch with reality.
?deep down you and everyone reading my post will surely recognise that forums like this are simply inappropriate to discuss the tragedy of any murder.?
Cobblers, you're takin' the Mick. This is just what a general forum is for ? discussing stuff. All kinds of stuff ? stuff that matters to people. In fact, your statement that this is not an appropriate forum to discuss major issues, like murders, seems quite bizarre and leads me to the conclusion that this is simply a vexations intervention ? particularly as elsewhere on the forum you are bemoaning the level of debate ? maybe you would prefer it if we all stuck to discussing favorite sweets or Borat movies?
I?m always suspicious of people who want to shut down debate, hide issues away, keep them secret. Knowledge is power and those who seek to deny knowledge to others with spurious arguments about ?inappropriateness? are usually people who wish to maintain the status quo, and with it, their positions of privilege and power.

I didn't realise that booze & shagging on the one hand and student politics on the other were mutually exclusive.
So for Spooks' benefit I'll rephrase what I meant: I meant that politically aware and / or politically active university students (probably a sizeable minority of said students) tend to be far more radicalised in their views while at college than they are afterwards.

Re: Who Will Mourn Kriss Donald?
Seems to me anything bad to do with muslims in this country and the media shit a brick. What they didn't tell you in the mainsteam media was that these animals aswell as stabbing the kid 13 times they also cut off his penis and balls, also 5 weeks before the attack they attacked another white youth and battered him with baseball bats and cricket bats. When asked by a prison officer why did you murder kriss one replied "To get another white bastart of the streets"
The latest news is that major drug barons in the scottish jails have taken out contracts on these scumbags lifes. I can't see many prison officers standing in there way .
