My heart sank at hearing this news. if I had any words of consolation i think he went out doing what he loved best and it was shit bad luck that couldnt have happened to a very entertaining and lively person.

I think this is what I thought was sad, that he will be missed because he brought much entertainment to many through his work and at 44 he certainly went before his time. RIP Steve Irwin

Agree on all counts.

But there was a certain inevitability about him dying in such a way.

I've heard the Thunderbirds are out to get Rolf Harris next.......

What is the world coming to?

On a serious note, I liked his programmes. I always remember that Kamodo Dragon chasing him up a tree and ripping the sole off his hiking boot. He was shaking like a leaf shouting "Danger, danger danger!" 5 minutes later he was rolling around on his belly inside a Komodo Dragons nest site! What a nutcase!

Even if that Stingray had sent him a letter in advance, telling him to keep away, he'd still have tried to mount the bloody thing!

He did more for putting Australian tourism, conservation & wildlife on the map than any other ever did

IDIOTS like Germaine Greer totally miss the point of the way he went about
getting this message across

The ends justify the means
