I hadn't thought about Leonard Rossiter for ages until read this post. Damn, British sitcoms miss that guy ... we get endless docs about Ronnie Barker, who I agree had a great range. But you don't hear so much about Rossiter ... when Rigsby and Reggie Perrin are about as wide apart in character range as you can get.

Shit sitcoms about dentists and superheroes are what we get lately ... it's like the worst mind-numbing ITV middle-class sitcom days of anything with Julia McKenzie or Anton wotsisname in it.

I've mostly been watching ITV 3 repeats of Goodnight Sweetheart, and Lovejoy, as I didn't see them first time around, and they are vaguely watchable .

The character Garry Sparrow was a selfish bastard all things considered.

Up until recently I found myself watching UKTV Gold just to watch repeates of The A-Team and Columbo rather than the reality and makeover shite that is constantly bombarding our TV these days.

In fact, it's thanks to the crap on mainstream TV that I have not bothered renewing my TV licence and only DVDs and videos instead. I certainly wasn't getting ?135 a year from it.

It's okay planet, I've cleared it with the TV licence people. if you can prove that you are not receiving a signal (which I can), then you do not a licence for DVDs and videos. The guy from NTL came out the other day and took the box away.

I had ?120 saved from the TV stamps that I had bought and when I wrote to the TV people, they would send me a cheque for that amount, as they shut your account down.

The TV people will come and check but I will gladly let them in. I can't watch the TV even if I wanted to.

There is a prog on C4 tonight at 23-35 called X-Rated ,apparently its about the bad bits which they cant normally screen but they can now if that makes sense, on the subject of the licenses i pay mine by direct debit and they take ?30+ each quarter from my account so you dont really miss it but its still a waste of money when you think you are really only paying for the BBC, i would be better off buying a fishing license and sitting on the river bank with my rod in hand it would probably give me more pleasure!love!
