Have to stand up for footy here....as warren zevon rip says, if you don't like it, don't watch it! Plenty of other stuff to do, like watch the tennis! Or you could send loads of letters/e-mails/whatever complaining to the BBC/ITV/whoever about it...but as over 32 million people watched the England/Ecuador game on Sunday, you'll probably be in a bit of a minority! That's what BBC2, Channel 4 & Five are for if you want to watch something else! And obviously the media will be full of stories about it while it's going on...and a lot of people do enjoy it, and not in the moronic way you've stated!

And since when did people need an excuse to get drunk? Been happening for a long time now...whether there's football on or not! !drink!

32million? thats impressive. I wonder what the total people would be if everyone who WANTED to watch it - did get to watch it. ie. those working etc..... itd be interesting to see as a total % of the population.....about 64% already according to that figure! (england only)

Sorry, but big sporting events are an integral part of mainstream culture both home and worldwide, and it's up to corporations like the BBC and ITV to reflect this and cater to the millions interested. Offhand treatment such as highlights only or shunting them off to digital only channels would provoke an outcry far greater than the usual bellyaching from those not interested. You have enough alternative options during these times, and more than enough when they're not being shown, which is by far the majority of the year.

TBH honest we have more kids that don't bother participating in sports these days, than ever before. Maybe more sport on tv is what we need to hopefully encourage more kids to take up sport.

Maybe then we'll have a bigger pool of talent to choose from and actually start winning things again!
