To me, he's show great cunning. When the shit hits the fan, the politicians are going to deny everything, and hang him out to dry to take the fall for another of their failed policies. having a few secret recordings will be very useful when the MPs start saying, "we never said, agreed that"

He's still a politically correct ineffective twat though.

He recorded the telephone coversation without making the other person aware of the fact and a third person also heard parts of the conversation. The excuse Ian Blair gave was that the call he was expecting between him and the other party was about a complex matter that he might need to refer back to at a later time.

I was under the impression it was legal for a recording to be made if only one of the parties involved was aware of it.

I still maintain on this occassion he has done nothing wrong and he should not have apologised. Most of us have had experience of being accused of saying something we did not in the course of a telephone conversation. In the circumstances he was taking a wise precaution.

No consent is needed if the recording is solely for personal use of one of the parties involved in the conversation, however to share it with anybody else does require consent. That's where Blair went wrong.
