I personally and professionally have never had anything but trouble buying things from PC World. I would suggest looking at Dell as they are very competitive on price and in my experience have vastly better support services than PC World. If you are interested look at the Dell Dimension series of PC's. The one that I looked at came in around the ?699 mark with VAT and delivery and had 3yrs next business day support. Only apparent difference was it had 17" TFT but you could downgrade to 1yrs collect and return warranty and get the 19" TFT for the same price.

There are thousands of people out there with horror stories about Dell and every other vendor - speaking from personal experience I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.

I have as little time for PC World but the spec of that machine is fine unless you want to do any very specialised tasks - games wise it will play most if not all the current games, the card isnt the best but its far from the worst too. Only thing to query is the operating system is XP Media Centre rather than XP Home - not sure if that restricts you in any way, might be worth checking into in more detail.

Final note, I *think* that Advent are a brand in their own right (unlike Packard Bell who are Dixons group only from memory) and they do their own support so you dont have to go to PC World for technical help but again could be wrong - ask the question about support in store and if your happy with the answers they give then I would say just go for it!

I have a Dell and I am very happy with it.

About the PC at PC world, under Features it says it is Windows XP Media Edition but says a remote control is NOT included.

Windows Media Edition is really for people who want it in the front room and watch TV on it, play music, DVDs etc.

But for that you need a remote control, so ensure you get one.

The graphics card on the pcworld system aint the best for newish games though it does come with a remote control, plus the tv tuner is only analogue.

A couple of other options:

you might want to upgrade the graphics card on this spec though.

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

Dont know where you live, but can I suggest you look in the Thomson Blue or Yellow pages for a local computer shop in your location. Give them a call or pop in and see them and discuss with them what you are going to do with your computer.

Do you want it as a media center so you can play movies and music from it from the net or other sources or will you be playing the latest Games on your PC. As you are on this site you could be into Movie editing, all three thing will use diferent resources in a PC. A local compter shop will bulid you a PC to YOUR requirements and it may not be a high street brand name, but it will be what YOU want and not what they want to sell off. The local supplier can even upgrade your current PC to make it run better or rebulid it. My PC case is Six years old with the same hard disk that it came with, It now has an new motherboard, graphics card and 205GB second disk that runs as good as any new PC.

You would not buy a car without looking at its capabilities, Ie buying a Mini cause its cheap when you have 6 kids to take each day on the school run. So why should you do that with your computer!!
