We can only hope Microsoft learn from the mistakes, I hope they go to their knowledge base and read and understand all the security issues and bugs. I really hope Vistas will work well and be a turning point for Microsoft OS Systems. Fingers crossed.

Microsoft don't want to learn IMHO

They leave the poorly written programs in place so their security software sells

You could argue the poor programs are due to the time constraints but seriously if a hacker can come up with a security breach within weeks/months then you've got to question who's at fault

Inept or manipulated Programming or seriously brilliant hackers?

I know how business works and it isn't hard to figure out which
answer is correct

Lol....XP and OSX are both half-breeds of Unix. OSX is just better (unless you encounter Java). Now if IBM hadn't fucked up OS/2 - now that was an operating system to be proud of.

As for Linux? Currently using SUSE with 2.6.13 kernel and damned fine it is too....

I think OSX is 100% based on *nix, hense the name "Macintheft", where as XP at least re-wrote most the code :)

Macintheft and Microshaft whats a man to do :)

I want to put a fedora core install on my old pc, so i can run a VPS/VPN server at home, but i never seem to get around to it :(

>Now if IBM hadn't fucked up OS/2

OS/2 was a joint IBM & Microsoft project, both companies had developers
working on it.

(I know becuase I was working for IBM at the time).

Because MS had problems working with IBM they went out and bought the
code that became Windows NT (off DEC I think).

Windows NT became Windows 2000, which became Windows XP and
Windows Server 2003.

Looking back I think MS did the right thing to ditch their link with IBM when
they did, IBM was just holding them back.

In fact in the preface to the "OS/2 Programmer's Guide" Bill Gates said:
"I believe OS/2 is destined to be the most important operating system,
and possibly program, of all time. As the successor to DOS, which has
over 10,000,000 systems in use, it creates incredible opportunities for
everyone involved with PCs."
