"It seems to glorify dumbness, sillyness, superficiality and stupidity and has absolutely no intelligent content at all"

But that's what Britishness is all about these days.

Ministry of mayhem and the like are aimed at pre-adolescents so, yeah, they are silly and mindless and they should be. It isnt meant to be educational and doesnt pretend to be. It's supposed to be recreational. There are other programmes available that are supposed to be less about recreation and more about information and education that are also aimed at pre - adolescents. These programmes are also equally worthwhile and valid. I suppose, ultimately, It's up to the parents to regulate how much off each the kids get. Theres nothing wrong with a bit of balance. MoM is a kind of celebration that, YES!, at long last the weekends here again! No more school for a couple of glorious days, yippee! Thats what Tiswas was to me when I was that age and I loved it.

And yeah, Holly Willoughby is well saucy.

"Maybe there ought to be TV programs for teenagers to teach them binge drinking and how to be a chav."

But there are, in spades. Checkout almost anything on ITV and a goodly selection on Channel 4 (home of 'Big Brother') and even the Beeb. Broadcasters of all types seem to be chasing ratings by pandering to the lowest common denominator - producing programs that will hold the fleeting attention spans of even the most vacuous and moronic members of our society. But in doing so they are, as a consequence, encouraging and endorsing stupidity, vacuousness, irresponsibility, and all the other associated shit (like bullying). This is a large part of the reason that standards of behaviour have visibly gone to the dogs over the past 10-15 years. Idiots feel that is now OK to be an idiot - Hey, it's on the TV innit? Everybody's doing it, right? It's a laugh, innit? Whereas in the recent past people tended to mind their 'p's and q's, because anti-social behaviour was very much frowned upon then.

If, as a society, we wish to get things back on track (and shake off our apathy) I would suggest that we start doing a little more frowning.
