Re: Brasil 5 X 0 Chile
Say hello to the World Champion 2006
In a canter I would think as long as injury doesn't intervene
The only other thing that might be a problem is Selecting a TEAM given the youngsters have outshone the incumbents
The 4 amigos in adriano, robinho, kaka & ronaldinho are all you need in attack
Where do you fit in Ronaldo?
The defence might have Roberto Carlos & Cafu on the bench
cheers

Trouble with England is that they don't believe that they are as good as the best
Where is the English Arrogance/Swagger/Class/Poise/Grit/Team Work from the likes of Shearer/Gasgoine/Sherringham/Pearce that led to those 2 Epic Semi-finals aginst the Germans?
When they beat Brazil in any match and believe,I'll believe, until then Scotland are more likely to win a World Cup
How else would you explain that defensive quarterfinal farce that was the second half against a 10 man Brazil in 2002?
cheers

The problem with England is having a coach who insists on playing what he believes to be the best 11 men available (even if it means playing some of them out of position) and then has no idea how to change things when necessary by judicious/inspired substitutions.
If we are to play 4-4-2 then Owen & Rooney up front is OK, but the midfield 4 have to be the best 4 in their respective positions and not just the best 4 midfielders in England.
That means Wright-Philips on the right (he poses more of a threat than Beckham AND tracks back defensively), either Lampard OR Gerrard as the attacking midfielder, Carrick or Scott Parker as the holding midfielder and whoever happens to be flavour of the month on the left (but PLEASE!!!! let it be someone who plays on the left week-in, week-out for his club). It may not SOUND as threatening as Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard & Cole (or AN Other) but it'll be better balanced!
At the back, presuming no injuries, the central partnership now has to be Terry & Carragher. Ferdinand needs to stop falling asleep, and dropping him to third choice might just wake him up a bit! Maybe he's believed those who a few years ago called him the new Bobby Moore, but BM never fell asleep on duty! For a guy as tall as him, Rio should never be beaten in the air, but too often he is.
Full backs are a problem. Ashley Cole doesn't attack for England the way he does for Arsenal, and his defensive capabilities have diminished dramatically since Euro 2004 to the point where he just doesn't defend at all. Wayne Bridge is his possible replacement but isn't first choice for his club. On the right, if either of the Nevile brothers is the answer, then we're asking the wrong question, and neither Luke Young or Glen Johnson are anywhere near good enough.
If we qualify for Germany, then we should be happy to get to the quarter finals, and ecstatic if we reach the semis!

The arrogance was there the other night when Michael Owen explained away Saturday's result against Wales by saying they had done just enough to beat them, but would lift their game to another level if playing the likes of France or Brazil. And that view was proved last night.
I cannot believe that a team with so many gifted individuals could play so badly together. It must be down to the tactics.

I agree. The arrogance was certainly there last night. They looked like they only had to turn up to beat Northern Ireland.
Maybe Deuce is talking about a swagger/deep belief in themselves rather than a superiority complex.

Re: Brasil 5 X 0 Chile
Your point about players playing in their own position was the reason why the Germans were so successfull from the mid 60's right up to the mid 90's.
If anybody get injured/suspended/loss of form etc then they replaced him with the next best player in that position.
There were no silly tactical changes. Just go out and bring in the next guy. Everybody new there job.
Sounds simple and it was.

I think England could win 1998 cup if they hadn`t been so unhappy on that game with argentina. England deserve to win that match. I think Germany will get to the final match next cup, in a way or another, like France did in 1998.

Perhaps they need the arrogance of Woodward, since it worked so well for the Lions down here.
