The next generation of consoles are going to be more than
just games machines.

These consoles may allow internet access, e-mail, even
basic word processing and so on.

I have thought for a while that the existing home PC is FAR
too compilcated for the non-technical home user.

Most home users want devices that are as easy to use as
their mobile phone or home TV or DVD player.

So the XBox 360 for example will have something like
Windows XP Media Center installed, a version of Windows
XP with a pretty front end on it so it is easy to play your
DVDs, music, look at your digital pictures and so on (you
can already buy PCs with this version of XP on it).

So this is likely to be a replacement for people who currently
buy low end PCs, and therefore it is likely to cost more than
?100 or whatever the XBox and Playstation currently cost.

Well whichever one comes first....and that looks like being the Xbox 360...will get my hard earned.

In terms of sheer processing power it looks like the PS3 will be the most powerful...although the stats on the Nintendo Revolution are still a bit hazy. But from what i've seen of the 360 games so far have been more than enough to convince me to get one.

Just check out play.com for the incredible line-up of games due out on it's launch day. ?400 is a pretty hefty price tag....but that's not a confirmed price according to play.com....and if I was Microsoft I would want to be taking advantage of being first out of the blocks by getting the 360 into as many homes as possible in the first few months...which means a price nearer ?275.

But even if it stays at ?399, i've still gotta have one. It just looks too good to be without it.
