Gettin out of Millenium Stadium

Post by slong »

I am fortunate enough to be going to watch U2 live at the Millenium Stadium later this month.

I have heard thats its a total nightmare gettin out of Cardiff after gigs and footy matches and that queues can last for over 4 hours...which would put a total bummer on wot I imagine being an otherwise unbelievable night)...

Has anyone had any experiance in gettin out of Cardiff after a big gig...is it as bad as 'they' say....any top tips?

btw...all hotels are booked so dont suggest that!

Sorry, can't resist.
Take a Li-Lo and paddle downstream on the Taff (it runs alongside the Stadium). Shouldn't take you long to get out into the Bristol Channel.

I've been to the Millenium Stadium twice not for gigs but for sporting events and it's a bloody nightmare.

The first one was the rugby league Challenge Cup Final two years a go. We had to go by train as you can't park anywhere near the stadium. We had to change both times at Bristol Temple Meads and that's where the trouble begins.

We spent 2 1/2 hours trying to get a train to Cardiff and only just got one. When we did we were waiting in a queue outside Cardiff station as the station couldn't cope with the volume of trains. We got there with 15 mins to spare.

On the way out of the stadium we decided to go the pub for 2 hours to let the crowds disperse. Some chance. We had to wait another 2 hours on top of that to get a train back.

Liverpool-Man Utd was worse. The same hassle getting there but the wise men from the police decided to close the station after the game as the crowds were too big thereby stranding an estimated 35,000 people in the city from both clubs with no way of getting back and no where to stay. The fact that both sets of supporters hate each other contributed to a night of trouble.

Well done the plod!

went to the div 2 playoff at the weekend, fucking nightmare getting out, the game finished at 6 and I was still by Cardiff on the M4 at 9.30. If you can find somewhere to stay for the night i'd recommend that, otherwise take a picnic and doss in the park and ride for a few hours

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

The reason why it is so difficult is because it's right in the middle of the city centre. I live in Cardiff and most of the football visitors I have spoken to have said how much they love it here, even the Arsenal fans who have virtually made it their second home over the last few seasons. They said it is far better than visiting Wembley as there is nothing around there. Here, there is a mountain of pubs on the doorstep of the stadium and really convenient for the women to go shopping.

slong, if you want you can park down my street. It's just along the road from the stadium and it's free. Drop us a line if you want mate.
