Not just the US. The Catholic Church made a great deal out of how much the last Pope suffered in his health, and made out that his suffering was some sort of offering to the faithful.

As for Dubya, I suspect he's worried for his own health if being in a vegetative state is grounds for euthanasia.

Religion is at the bottom of it. The Bible plays a big part in many American's lives, especially in the southern states. Combine that with the right to bear arms, a distrust of the Federal Government and a prison population of 2 Million, it has led to a strange hotch potch of views and rights that vary from state to state. America don't execute that many people, only 124 in 2004

American don't execute many people? Are you joking? They are number 3 in the world after China and Iran I beleive. That's a nice club to be in. America are actually number one in the world when it comes to the most child offender executions. Executing children puts America in the same club as Congo, Iran, Pakistan, China and Saudi Arabia.

Look at the statistics in the link - 125 ot of a population of 300 Million is not a lot. The Death Penalty is not in force in all states. America certainly don't execute children.

Eight countries since 1990 are known to have executed prisoners who were under 18 years old at the time of the crime - China, Congo (Democratic Republic), Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, USA and Yemen.

That's from Amnesty International

I stand corrected, they did - but over 18 when executed.
