Gee Mr. Moore, I thought you did not like guns

Post by Brickboy240 »

From Fox News website (but its other news sources as well)

NEW YORK ? Filmmaker Michael Moore's (search) bodyguard was arrested for carrying an unlicensed weapon in New York's JFK airport Wednesday night.

Police took Patrick Burke, who says Moore employs him, into custody after he declared he was carrying a firearm at a ticket counter. Burke is licensed to carry a firearm in Florida and California, but not in New York. Burke was taken to Queens central booking and could potentially be charged with a felony for the incident.

Moore's 2003 Oscar-winning film "Bowling for Columbine" criticizes what Moore calls America's "culture of fear" and its obsession with guns.

Yes, this is EXACTLY why people like me have such a problem with Micheal Moore. Here is a hypocrite saying "Its ok for the annointed ones like me to be protected by guns, but you peasants should not be allowed the same protection and to hell with keeping you safe from the criminals"

Typical elitist liberal scumbag. You live like serfs, whilst me and the annointed few live like kings. (we yanks fought a war over 200 years ago to free us from this type of thinking...did we not?)

If you consider someone with this type of mindset a hero...well...I feel sorry for you.

Well, in defence of michael moore, it was his bodyguard that was arrested, and not him. He may be just as suprised as the rest of us.

Shouldn't you be watching your strategically shaved ape take time out from screwing up the world to get itself inaugurated?

Oh, and I doubt if anyone on this forum would describe Moore as a hero, any more than we would that vegetable masquerading as a world leader.

Who else? He says he's got rid of his BMW so he's got a new nick too. But obviously he hasn't changed in any other way.

There's nothing wrong with guns if properly licensed and controlled. The guns to worry about are the unlicensed ones in the hands of criminals. Criminals will have guns regardless of the laws. Ownership of handguns is legal in most EU states and does not lead to mass killings. The fact is you are less likely to be the victim of crime in the US than the UK, the problems with guns in the US is limited to mainly deprived areas where you just don't go, if you want to walk in a ghetto at night, you might get shot, but that would be because you were stupid and not unlucky.

Funny how I get slammed for turning things into a Clinton bash, but you guys can turn anything into a Bush bash. Whatever. I haven't watched a minute if those festivities and actually am appalled at the monies being spent on such a wing-ding in these times. See...when you get down to it, Bush is not different than Clinton or his daddy was...they all love pissing away our tax monies on stupid shit.

(I'll bet you all blamed Bush and the evil ol yanks for the goddamn tsunami! ...come on now...you know you did)

Ok, so Moore himself was not carrying the gun, but you know he probably knows his bodyguards are packing guns (otherwise, why have 'em?). Moore went on and on in his film, "Bowling for Columbine" about how it was wrong for Americans to carry guns and it was a bash-fest on the whole US gun ownership issue, yet HE thinks its alright for HIM to have armed guards.

I am surprised that a group of folks like yourselves, that dislike the royals for this type of thinking, cannot see how this could irritate me and how wrong it is.

(...and this has nothing to do with Dubya...where'd that come from?)

Great - just what the board needs.

Another Moore-obsessed septic wittering on about liberals and anti-Americanism.

"The guns to worry about are the unlicensed ones in the hands of criminals."

or the ones in the hands of unstable family members of gun-owners, or the ones in the hands of people who go on a killing spree after being sacked etc etc

"The fact is you are less likely to be the victim of crime in the US than the UK,"

Well its certainly a fact that like-for-like crime statistics between countries are extremely difficult to compare. But even so, it is far from a fact that gun laws are the sole factor in determining crime levels in the UK and the US.

One certain fact is that you are far more likely to be shot in the US than in the UK.

I really can't see the point of gun ownership - why own something that is primarily designed for killing people? Maybe the UK laws are too draconian - but I would far rather live in a society with restrictive gun control laws than one with a more laissez-faire approach. If the inhabitants of other countries feel diferently then thats entirely up to them.
