I was mystified and slightly pissed off to read this news story on the BBC site:
"Judge calls for tougher internet sentencesStephane Perrin, 29, was jailed for 30 months for operating a hardcore porn website from his home in Hove, East Sussex. The court heard that Perrin made big profits through his worldwide subscription porn service. Sentencing him the judge called for heavier penalties for internet pornographers. "The message must go out that those responsible for publishing internet pornography can expect to be dealt with severely by the courts," he said. "
I don't know any more to the story than that but, because they didn't mention otherwise, the insinuation is that he was publishing photos/movies of consensual adult sex - so why would he be sent to prison for that? Why the fuck should people who publish *legal* pornography be dealt with severely? With supposedly relaxed R18 guidelines meaning that hardcore is finally legal, why was he prosecuted?
what was the crime?

Re: what was the crime?
(just read that news story) but i still don't get it, there's no mention of *anything* he did wrong. he published porn on the net? well, that's obviously not in itself illegal. so what did he do wrong?
