Otherwise they'd be out of business

I still think health should be provided for by the Country
How you pay for it is where the debate should be

If you want to see what the Private sector could become just look at America

People not seeking treatment because they can't afford it

Doctors practicing medicine within Financial Constraints

A recent case in Australia showed private medicine at its worst
A surgery got bought by a private company who then started charging
patients every time their doctor needed to access their medical history-taken straight from the lawyers handbook of how to wring money from a client no doubt

Ludicrous is a word that sums it up

i agree that the country should pay for medical care for those that can't afford it. Those that have the cash should go private to take the burden off the NHS ; otherwise the total tax burden of the individual will be so high that no-one in this country would vote for a government advocating a pure NHS system and the NHS will fall apart. This country is greedy we won't pay for public services

That sounds plausible until you start talking about serious illnesses

3 to 4 months of cancer treatment, bypass surgery etc would test the finances of even the most financially well off

Proper funding for the Public System/NHS should always be the priority
and the Private Sector purely as a pressure relief valve not the other way around

yeah true but the reality of new treatments for virtually every illness possible for every person will in the end totally drain all basic national insurance as it currently stands.
IMO the only way we can cover total treatment for everyone is if we ALL pay more, but unfortunately this won't happen cos as a country we won't pay. I wish I had the answer, but until the society changes we are stuck with what we got

I know we slag off the legal profession for its greed, but that (like so much in this life) is a sweeping generalisation. It's like assuming every politician lies, or every priest diddles with little kiddies. The worst examples of each profession, and humanity as a whole, are presented to us daily in the printed media and the broadcast media. In the end it's easy to forget there are good, decent people doing their job well, quietly and outwith the glare of publicity.

it may sound sad, but if I won loads of cash on the lottery or summat I would love to study law and just use it to fuck over the system and be able to spend the time trying to right the wrongs done to people who can't afford a lawyer who can spend the time taking their case on seriously rather than just going through the motions as I see the duty soliciters doing

There are some people you cannot afford to piss off---unless you like pain. When was the last time anyone criticised their dentist while remaining a patient?

The media has a lot to do with it: the racist, thuggish policeman; the hard-boiled, chain-smoking, alcoholic, would sell his mother for a story journalist; the dodgy school teacher with an unnatural interest in his pupils. They've become dramatic cliches. Doesn't mean there aren't people who conform to this image, but we could do with giving more people the benefit of the doubt rather than condemn them because of their job.

I agree we don't give people the kudos they deserve at times, but reading this forum and talking to everyone I know, when was the last time you heard of an insurance person going above and beyond what was required just to do something good.

Add that point to most or all of the above mentioned jobs, it may be a short list
