Ill get it when I go near Virgin Megastore next then
I dunno about disciplined but without sounding like a total arsehole, I know for sure that the riffs I get when improvising are as good as the british bands out there now and i add stylistics they dont use. But fuck it, as soon as I start talking about it I sound like a wannabe like everyone else and thats my idea of hell so its better just to get on wtih it quietly and surprise everyone in the long run, the irony is I dont want to perform or tour or any of that shit, just dedicated to getting good...
Musics in a pretty bad state and trying to be a musicians easier than ever in terms of the quality of material you write/play in fact ive not been impressed by ANY music recently really - the last being Janes Addictions last album in 2003 (Strays) and thats a fricking comeback album!!
congrats to tony iommi

Re: rush?,vanhalen ?etc.
Rush are an acquired taste
If the net can be believed their touring again for their 30th anniversary
including Europe
From the Singer on Helium vocals or was it a strangled cat vocals(the reviewer that said this is supposebly still receiving hate mail....to every different sound imaginable
The concept album 2112 illustrates them to perfection-Unique
cheers
B....OZ
Vanhalen & Foreigner were just your run of the mill rock bands IMHO
Talented but then so were many other similar bands of that time

Re: OT- Audioslave
Thanks for your support, I agree its better just to get your sights clear and stick to it but I dont think theres much original left to do - my worst nightmare would to have worked for like the best part of 10 years just to be a part of just another average modern uk rock band. Whats the point other than the cynical lifestyle choices outsiders will gladly outline?
In terms of unpredictable musicians im a MASSIVE fan of Mr Bungle (Mike Pattons first and last band it would appear) I dont know if you know them but get their s/t cd later on when you go shopping - its basically the most incredible cd i own, prob my all time fav. Every genre rolled into one, superb musicianship, superb writing, INCREDIBLE lyrics...its sad its only sold like 10 copies....BUY IT PLEASE frank zappa once said they were "the only band worth shit" and almost completely changed my perspective on playing music and listening for that matter. They have the effect steve vai has on playing guitar to the average rock fan because they just make you think of MTV music and wonder - WHY!?

BTW - just thought id mention ive got Appetite for Destruction in the cd player tonight for headphone consumption. In my opinion possibly THE best rock n roll album ever...you seriously described it well earlier as dirty jamming type rock n roll...the albums so well crafted and organised ...have you ever noticed theres no soft/ballad/ acoustic song on that album? interesting they chose to omit one as those were the staple diet of the late 80s.....people forget GNR were the massive bridge between 80s stadium rock and the 90s grunge....sad but true

OT- The Dummies Guide to 90's Rock
In response to various quibbles:
(and for those perplexed as to why historians have thrown a union jack over our previous decade's music scene. Objection, your honour...)
Part 1: USA
musically/innovatively.........few could match Smashing Pumpkins (scope-wise, none of todays bands come within spitting distance of MC&TIS, and Jimmy Chamberlin was THE drummer - see 'Jellybelly' for details)........sadly Corgan's voice was an acquired taste........Soundgarden......had it all........Cornell good, very good, but........... it was Layne Staley who could really sing the shit out of a song........such a waste.....still........Jar of Flies/Sap........breaks yer heart.......never took to Pearl Jam that much......though I did like Neil 'The Guv'nor' Young's Mirror Ball album they played on..........Weld.....immense.......and Nirvana were.........Nirvana.......who take us right the way back to............(scandal - no-one's mentioned)......The very lovely Pixies.
Part 2: Dear old Blighty
........and all was quiet in the forest until one bushy-browed squirrel stole the chords from Revolver whilst little bro' lost his temper doing up his shoelaces..........

Then caved in a year later and recorded...Patience
It compliments the other anti-establishment songs on GNR Lies perfectly
Used to Love her...One in a Million...Reckless Life.....Mama Kin
Your right about Appetite its a complete album as opposed to the usual 2/3 singles and fillers
Seems a little dated or maybe I've heard it way to many times?
cheers

Re: OT- The Dummies Guide to 90's Rock
urgh I fucking hate the smashing pumpkins, their guitar parts are pathetic in comparison to those other bands you lsited. they are part of the reason modern rock has been so downhill...they only did like 10 decent riffs!! and lyricsally and vocally they were shit
