I hate these bloody conversations as the names are always the same and none of my favourites ever get much mention because they didnt overdo the kind of "virtuosity" of the ones mentioned or werent doing it first.

Notice the ones listed are all massive stadium type acts who sold many many millions and whilst I dont disagree I still think my fav era of late 80s early 90s had the best overall package in terms of attitude, musicianship, lyrics, vocals...etc

All 4 members of Soundgarden wrote EXCELLENT songs with great musicianship, Guns n roses werent original but changed the whole scene, faith no more's influence is still reverberating etc etc etc but no one ever includes these bands because people want to list the "original" artists. I always judge individual musicians on quality rather than originality and those bands were all perfect in terms of quality.

Led Zep, Van Halen, etc were all GREAT dont get me wrong, but none of them seem to have the ability to craft an album that is consistently riff after riff without lagging which is where the metallicas, nirvanas, alice in chains etc all excelled and hence current music (albeit shit) is most noticeably influenced by them...
