Re: congrats to tony iommi
hmm im glad - i love sabbath and iommi and butler wrote incredibly well. lets face it - everything rock since has come from that blueprint even if cream, the kinks and hendrix were doing it too...sabbath put the dark to the music and metal was properly born...their riffs are superb so hes def up there....BUT i would agree that there are more influencial and "better" guitarists .e.g hendrix and clapton....which poll was it tho? kerrang prob lol

Not a fan of Tony, although I take my hat off to anyone who loses their fingertips in an accident and learns to play again

Can you be more specific though Ace as im interested? What don't you like about Black Sabbath - i love that crunch and the sheer quality of riffs from guys who were my age amazes me. Maybe its because I adore Soundgarden and they are really just the 80s/90s equivalent to Sabbath

Re: congrats to tony iommi
Tony Iommi is an incredible guitarist and songwriter, in my opinion there is none better. I personally think his best playing is on the post Ozzy albums as he seemed to blossom as a musician when working with singers such as Ronnie Dio and Ian Gillan who were superior technically (Although wether they sing with as much character as Ozzy is debatable) and allowed him to stretch out melodically rather than just blast out the riffs.
His solos on the "Heaven and Hell" and "Born Again" albums are phenomenal and the "Seventh Star" album with Glenn Hughes singing (Brilliantly) is an under-rated gem.
Sadly rock'n'roll folklore tells us that Sabbath without Ozzy were inferior but that is a load of bollocks.
He also deserves immense credit for carrying on with Sabbath during the late eighties and early nineties when the likes of Kerrang slagged them mercilessly (They've changed their tune a bit now though...the two-faced wankers) and he even financed various parts of Sabbath tours on his bloody credit card.
Don't even get me started on Bill Ward!!

glenn hughes was with finders keepers/deep purple in the early days im sure.
Re: congrats to tony iommi
That's him, he was also in "Trapeze" and has recorded a number of solo albums. He's got a wonderful voice with acres of soul. He recorded one album with Black Sabbath which was originally intended to be a Tony Iommi solo album but the record company intervened and put it out as Black Sabbath in order to sell more. It's awesome but fairly atyipcal in terms of a Sabbath sounding record.
