You only get what you pay for

Can't recommend a brand but will say cheap tapes not only detiorate quicker they can cause damage to the heads of the VCR

Personally I'd go for a brandname thats on special for taping stuff that you might rarely watch and the best for something you consider worth keeping

Anybody know what the life expectancy of a VCR tape is?

cheers

They were advertised as a 'lifetime use' (sorry ID), but I have some in their original sleeves with the 1988 Seoul Olympics advertised, and they do seem heavier than modern tapes, but Im honest if I say I won't dare use them incase they bollock my VCR heads up.

I recall an article in the paper about this, and the manufacterer stressed 'his tapes' were THEIR lifetime guarantee, not the consumers. So, if a tape has a lifetime expectancy of 18 months, anything after is a bonus.
Sneaky advertising IMO

.......as a lawyer told me, 'lifetime' in this context means the lifetime of the tape. Whatever that is.
