Quebec, like the Past, is another country: they do things differently there.

Isn't what you advocate (harsher sentencing and better education) part of gun-control?
In which case, you and Moore are largely in agreement, although your methods differ.
And to discuss a programme on last night's telly (and that only to the extent of a dozen or so posts) is hardly 'obsessive'.

The REAL answers.....

To shoot small furry animals.
To protect ourselves against other people with guns.
Because we like them.
Beacause gun-oil smells wonderful.

Because of a mistaken interpretation of the US Constitution. In the same way as some other nutters in the US refuse to take a driving test etc. because it apparently interferes with their right to unhampered travel or some such nonsense. But this is just me being a left-wing idealogue.

No, you misunderstand. It's because the constitution says they can have them. The Americans are being patriotic by supporting an industry that has kept them where they are----looking down the barrel of a gun.

Suppose, just suppose, that the right to own slaves was part of the US constitution today. Would millions of Americans, in defiance of the feelings of many of their fellow citizens, keep a couple of dozen around the house? Or if prohibition was brought back, would BC be first in line to throw his booze into the nearest harbour? The constitutional argument is an excuse and always has been.
